University of Information Technology and Communications Organized a Workshop on Supporting the E-Government Project In the presence and patronage of his Excellency the minister of higher education and scientific research the Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Esa, UOITC organized a workshop on the role of information technology and communications in supporting the project of e-government at the Baghdad International Fair. The workshop was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Representative of the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Ali Al-Shahristani, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Communications, Mr. Amir Al-Bayati, the representative of the National Committee for the e-government Project, a number of personalities, companies and institutions who participated in the 44th session of the Baghdad International Fair and the University staff and students. The president of the University the Prof. Dr. Abbas M. Al-Bakry said, since its establishment, the university has had a vision and objectives in influencing in the society towards digitization and we believe that it is one of the standards of the productive universities through an academic and development program whereas a committee was formed to study the needs of the society and to meet the needs of the labor market by employing the required skills of the graduator in addition to the scientific base. Al-Bakry added that the national project e-government is a way to move towards the welfare society of the citizen by meeting the needs through providing mechanisms free of complexity and routine and methods of corruption and reducing the long working hours and wasting of money and efforts, adding that this committee has drawn a road map and put mechanisms of implementation through three axes: the infrastructure, the policy and legal framework, and the e-services. The university president referred, that the national project needs attention, care, and openness to ideas introduced by the interested and specialists, whereas the recommendations of workshops represent one of the important pillars that benefit the members of this committee. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Esa, said in his speech at the workshop that the ministry is working to strengthen the foundations of modern technologies and keep abreast of developments in the field of information and communication technology and exploiting that in the management and modernization of academic programs. Al-Essa said that the Ministry of Higher Education is also working to make the academic institutions as a large electronic system linked with fast data sources to achieve the project of electronic governance, whose main steps have been put into practice by linking universities to the ministry center. The minister also added that the establishment of specialized universities was one of the most important projects achieved by the ministry to enrich the scientific spaces of universities accordingly with the cumulative vertical construction of achievements and knowledge. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Esa toured in UOITC pavilion which included a set of electronic services implemented by the UOITC and introduced to the society. A number of lecturers introduced a number of lectures on the subject of the workshop and at the end of the workshop, discussions were opened and recommendations were announced.
