The UOITC organized a scientific seminar on the H-Index in Iraqi universities presented by Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majid, Director General of Research and Development Department at the Ministry.
The seminar, which was attended by the President of the University, Dr. Abbas M. Al-Bakry, the scientific assistant and a number of university lecturers, aimed at introducing the importance of the scientific index (H-Index), which is an indicator of the researcher’s effort (number of scientific papers) and the quality of this scientific output (number of citations to this paper) Because it is good criteria for the researcher, the university, the college and the country in general.
Dr. Ghassan Hamid discussed the experiences of Iraqi universities and their researchers in this indicator, as well as the possibility of changing the value of each index according to the size and structure of the databases searched by the search engine. There are three known databases: the Google database (160 million documents), Scopus database (34,000 magazines) and the WOS database (12,000 journals).
The seminar also discussed the University’s research, which was included in Scopus, especially after its last conference, as well as the university’s participation and research cooperation with the countries of the world.
The seminar concluded by recommending, Using the university’s official name when sending the research, and continuing to direct the teaching staff and researchers to publish within the databases, And the need to encourage researchers who have a clear role in raising the value of H-Index of the University, and to seek a special account in the name of the university within Scopus databases of citations, in addition to holding workshops periodically by the Department of Quality Assurance to follow progress in the performance of the University in the scientific research within Global databases.
