The University of Information Technology Held the Second Iraqi Information Society Forum
The UoITC held the Second Iraqi Information Society Forum under the title “Empowering everyone from the positive use of artificial intelligence”. The forum was held in cooperation with the Iraqi Association for Communications and Information Technology and coincided with the World Telecommunication Society Day.
The meeting was attended by the representative of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Prof. Dr. Nabil Al-Araji) in addition to a number of specialists and researchers in the field of information technology from the public and private sectors. The University President, Dr. Abbas M. Al-Bakry said in a speech during the forum: “The University aimed to hold the Iraqi Information Society Forum annually in conjunction with the annual World Telecommunication Society Day (WTSD). The aim of the celebration in this day is to raise the awareness in the abilities to exploit the information technology and communications in building an economic community that initiates the prosperity for the citizen”.
Al-Bakry said: “The acceleration in the requirements of the labor market in different sectors requires us as a university and academic institutions to keep up this acceleration. Whereas at the beginning of 2025 and 2030, a large number of jobs will be abolished and replaced by a larger number and this requires from us having a real vision for this change. University president emphasized “The UOITC with its seeking to graduate the first batch of its students this year to keep pace with these innovations through the possibility of providing an appropriate environment for the investment mechanism for scientific research to have a real impact in society”.
On the other hand, the Prof. Dr. Nabil Al-Araji said during the forum: “Iraq still follows artificial intelligence just in the theoretical side while the great and rapid development that is taking place in the world, indicating that the artificial intelligence represents a major pivot in various areas of life “. Al-Araji pointed out that “Nowadays, Iraq is in dire need of real process according to a systematic framework to move towards the use of artificial intelligence according to the great change that will impact on the jobs in the world, which began to rely on artificial intelligence. He also called for the need to establish an information society for serving the country”.
During the forum, a number of lectures were introduced by IT specialists and were conducted through two sessions, which included more than ten lectures in the field of artificial intelligence. During the forum, the university president presented the university’s shield to Prof. Dr. Nabil El-Araji, and a number of certificates were distributed to the lecturers and companies that participated in the forum.
Meanwhile, Ras Al-Bar General Trading Company, the official agent of Canon in Iraq, presented the creative shield to the President of the UoITC, Dr. Abbas M. Al-Bakry and to the Prof. Dr. Nabil Al-Araji in appreciation to their efforts in the field of information technology.
During the forum, a number of student’s graduation projects from College of Business Informatics at the University were presented, in addition to a number of companies presented their services and equipment in the field of communications.
