The University of Information Technlolgy and Communications , in cooperation with the Institute of Informatics for Graduate Studies, organized the sixth physical and virtual forum for the Iraqi information society under the title (Digital Technology for the Elderly and Enjoying Good Health in Old Age), which coincides with the celebration of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which corresponds to 17/5 of every year .
The President of the University / President of the Iraqi Commission for Computers and Informatics, Prof. Dr. Abbas Mohsen Al-Bakri stressed during a speech the need to help people build smarter cities and ensure the coverage of the elderly in care all over the world, indicating that this occasion represents raising awareness and the important role of information and communication technology to keep people healthy. Connected and physically, emotionally and financially independent to live healthy old age as a critical issue for the sustainability of economic and health systems.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent a message to all parts of the world that Dr. Ali Hassan Tarish read about during the forum, in which he addressed the celebration of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day this year and emphasized the importance of digital technologies for the elderly and the need to enjoy good health in old age, noting that Information technology has a great potential to improve the lives of older people, their families and communities, combat age discrimination in the workplace, protect independence, and support millions of older people worldwide.
Guterres focused on making the most of the opportunities offered by the fifth generation technology for cellular communications networks, artificial intelligence, the Internet of things and remote health care, which required everyone to improve access to the Internet, pointing out that half of humanity does not have access to these services and if we are keen that no one is left behind It is our duty to provide the Internet to all people, and measures must be taken to prevent and reduce information technology, which includes misinformation and the exploitation of personal data.
For his part, the Chairman of the Council of Commissioners of the Media and Communications Commission, Mr. Abdul Athim Saleh, focused during his speech on the activities of the Media and Communications Commission and its role in approving regulations for the importance of this sector, which is in direct contact with the Iraqi person and the development taking place at the world level. Saleh was exposed to e-government projects, digital transformation and tax Digital and other events, and start full readiness to cooperate with the university in the field of information and communication technology, in accordance with the powers granted to the authority.
The forum was inaugurated in the midst of an official presence and representatives from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Ministries of Defense, Interior, Oil, Health, the Media and Communications Commission, the Public Retirement Authority, Al-Mustansiriya University and the Iraqi Academy of Sciences . The Higher Diploma at the Informatics Institute for Postgraduate Studies serves the elderly and their families and achieves the goals of sustainable development.
The scientific sessions also focused on the importance of innovating initiatives to accelerate digital technologies for the elderly.
