As part of the digital awareness and education programs, the College of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Information Technology and Communications, in cooperation with the Department of Relations and Media at the Ministry of Interior, organized a seminar entitled “Spreading community awareness of the danger of digital rumors and their negative effects”.

The seminar was presented by both the faculty member Dr. Hanaa Salim Ghanem from the college and Colonel Ammar Hamid Rahim from the Anti-Rumor Division at the Ministry of Interior, where the two lecturers discussed the concept of the digital rumor, its most prominent forms and means of spreading it through cyberspace, in addition to its impact on societal and national security.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of digital rumors, protect society from the dangers of media misinformation and false information, and build digital immunity that enables individuals to distinguish between facts and false information.

During the seminar , awareness brochures were distributed to students and college members, which included instructions on how to deal with suspicious news and ways to combat rumors, in addition to an integrated questionnaire to measure the extent of participant’s awareness of the mechanisms of the spread of digital rumors and their impact on the academic and student.
