As part of the College of Engineering’s commitment to enhancing practical learning and linking theoretical knowledge with real-world applications in state institutions, the Department of Telecommunications and Mobile Computing Engineering at the College of Engineering, University of Information Technology and Communications, organized a scientific visit to Al-Ma’moon Telephone Exchange and Al-Ma’moon Telecommunications Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Communications.
The visit aimed at familiarizing the students with operational mechanisms in vital telecommunications facilities and to introduce them to the latest technologies and systems used in operating and managing telecommunications networks.
It also sought to highlight key strategic projects implemented by the Ministry of Communications, particularly Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS) and their role in supporting service and security sectors.
The visit included a field tour of the Vehicle Tracking and Fleet Management Center (GPS Tracking Center), where specialists provided a detailed explanation of how tracking systems operate, their components, and methods for real-time vehicle monitoring and data management. The tour also covered the exchange control room to review switching and network interconnection systems, in addition to introducing the Japanese Loan Project, which aims to develop telecommunications infrastructure and enhance its efficiency in line with modern technological advancements.
In the end of this visit, faculty members and students expressed their appreciation to the administration and staff of Al-Ma’moon Telecommunications Center, emphasizing the importance of such scientific visits in developing students’ skills and enhancing their practical experience, thereby contributing to the preparation of qualified engineering professionals who meet labor market requirements.
