As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the educational and research environment, a specialized engineering committee at the University of Information Technology and Communications has begun fieldwork to assess the current state of laboratories and the standards of laboratory equipment across the university’s colleges. These visits aim to ensure the application of Iraqi standards for the quality of educational laboratories, including the coding of laboratories and lab equipment, and the classification of laboratories based on the risks associated with the nature of experiments or laboratory work. This aligns with the requirements for institutional and programmatic accreditation. The committee aims to improve laboratory performance efficiency and to establish a safe environment that supports education and practical training. This is being pursued by providing recommendations for equipment upgrades, enhancing safety procedures, and unifying documentation and evaluation mechanisms. The visits have seen clear and fruitful cooperation from the quality assurance units in the colleges, contributing to the success of the evaluation process and fostering an environment supportive of continuous improvement efforts. Preliminary results have shown significant progress in several laboratories, while also highlighting the need to develop certain technical and operational aspects in others to meet academic quality standards. The university reaffirms its commitment to providing modern laboratory infrastructure that adheres to the highest national and international standards in support of its academic and research mission, and the provision of high-quality educational outcomes.
