This morning, the University of Information Technology and Communications held a moment of silence for all Iraqi martyrs and victims of genocide. This was in response to the directives of the Prime Minister’s Office, which called for a minute of silence on Sunday, August 3, 2025, with a halt to vehicle traffic, to commemorate the martyrs on the National Day of the Yazidis and Other Ethnic Groups.

The vigil was attended by the University President, his assistants, deans of colleges, faculty members, affiliates, and students. Participants raised their hands in prayer for the souls of the martyrs, affirming their solidarity with the families of the victims and the sacrifices of all Iraqi communities who were subjected to killing, displacement, and other violations during waves of violence and terrorism.

In his remarks on this occasion, the university president emphasized that this commemoration comes in recognition of the great sacrifices made by the Iraqi people of all backgrounds and in preservation of the values of peaceful coexistence and national unity. He emphasized that commemorating this occasion is a humanitarian and moral responsibility that contributes to promoting a culture of peace and rejecting extremism.

It is worth noting that this annual commemoration, according to the book “The Annual Commemoration of the Genocide of the Yazidis and Other Communities,” renews the pledge to follow in the footsteps of the martyrs in building a safe and prosperous Iraq where all communities coexist in respect and love.
