The Women’s Affairs section, in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Information Technology and Communications, organized an educational webinar entitled: “motivating women’s participation in parliamentary elections – Challenges and opportunities”.

The webinar presented by Asst.prof. Murooj Abbas Mutlaq from the Legal Affairs Department, Asst.prof .Nairi Abdullah Naeem from the College of Business Informatics, to enhance the role of women in political and electoral work, and to emphasize the importance of their participation as an active element in the democratic process.

The first axis of the webinar addressed constitutional guarantees and the role of women in the political scene, stressing that the democratic system is based on the principle of gender equality in various political, economic and social fields. The importance of activating this role was also emphasized as the legislative elections scheduled for November 2025 approach, ensuring women’s real and effective participation in decision-making.

The second axis focused on effective strategies to enhance women’s participation, by protecting them from violence and political blackmail, legislating laws that support their rights and activating them, in addition to implementing the women’s quota system and providing financial incentives to parties that support women’s representation on their electoral lists. The importance of awareness and education campaigns through workshops and seminars, and providing a safe environment inside polling stations, was also noted, in line with the fifth goal of Sustainable Development
on gender equality.

The webinar was attended by a number of interested parties and specialists in women’s issues, who stressed the importance of strengthening their role in building the political process in Iraq.
