The University of Information Technology and Communications has announced the completion of the technical work for launching the National Open Government Portal, through the committee established by Diwani Order No. (22 of 2020), chaired by Professor Dr. Abbas Mohsen Al-Bakri, the university president, with the membership of a working team from the university and the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers. During a coordination meeting with representatives from the National Data Center at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Al-Bakri confirmed that the portal aims to enhance government transparency by publishing open data, enabling citizens to monitor the performance of government institutions and contributing to improving resource management efficiency and informed decision-making. Additionally, it will provide real local national data for researchers in various fields instead of relying on data from other countries. For its part, the university’s technical team presented a detailed overview of the portal’s operational mechanisms and data classification methods according to global standards, emphasizing that the trial version is ready for launch. Representatives from the National Data Center also expressed their full readiness to provide the necessary legal and technical support. It is worth noting that this project is being implemented in accordance with Diwani Order No. (22 of 2020) and contributes to achieving sustainable development goals by building an integrated electronic governance system that enhances transparency and creates job opportunities in the field of data analysis. If implemented, this portal will achieve Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
