The Informatics Institute for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Information Technology and Communications (UOITC) hosted a Master’s thesis defense by student Maryam Bashir Mahmoud, majoring in Computer Science. The thesis was titled:“Explainable Artificial Intelligence for Transparent Human Embryo Viability Assessment in IVF”The thesis addressed the development of methods based on deep learning techniques to analyze and classify microscopic images of embryos. This approach contributes to evaluating morphological characteristics and determining viability indicators within the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) environment. The study focused on utilizing Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to provide clear visual evidence and indicators extracted from embryo images. This aims to enhance the transparency of intelligent model outcomes and support decision-making in embryo assessment.Following the presentation by the student and an in-depth discussion of the thesis details and its results, the examination committee—in the presence of the Institute’s deanship—awarded the student a Master’s degree in Computer Science with Distinction (Excellent).
