The Continuous Education Center at the University of Information Technology and Communications, in cooperation with the Training, Development and International Consulting Team at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, organized the first development workshop for the year 2026 / sixth phase, within the capability building program for state institutions towards digital transformations, which came under the title of management and security of virtual private servers.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and how they work practically, in addition to explaining their importance in hosting websites and electronic applications, which contributes to supporting digital transformation paths and enhancing the technical infrastructure of institutions.

The workshop, presented by Lect. Dr. Aws Hammad Kurdi, a lecturer at the Business Informatics College at the university, addressed a number of key topics, including how to choose the appropriate hosting provider such as (Contabo and Hostinger), as well as explaining the steps to set up the server from scratch using the SSH protocol, installing and managing the operating system professionally, as well as explaining the mechanisms for setting up users and permissions, and ways to secure servers using protection tools such as (Firewall and Fail2Ban), in addition to installing an integrated hosting environment that includes (Web Server, PHP and MySQL), linking domains and running actual websites.

The workshop covered backup management, server performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and presented best practices to ensure stable and secure server operation.

The workshop was attended by a number of employees from ministries and state institutions, with the aim of benefiting from training programs that aim to develop technical capabilities and promote the concepts of digital transformation and e-governance.
