As part of the University of Information Technology and Communication’s commitment to enhancing laboratory safety standards and ensuring the secure handling of hazardous and toxic chemical and biological substances, the Division for the Control of Hazardous and Toxic Chemical and Biological Substances—based at the University Presidency—conducted a field visit to the Biomedical Informatics College, and the purpose of the visit was to assess the status of the scientific laboratories and to monitor the procedures for the storage, handling, and use of these materials in accordance with established regulations.

The division was represented during the visit by Assist. Lect. Abeer Abdul-Adheem Sa’ad and Assist. Lect. Fadhel Shaker Hmoud, and the visit included the chemistry and biology laboratories—accompanied by the respective laboratory supervisors—to examine the nature of the work and the procedures followed in handling chemical and biological materials, and furthermore, the visit served as an opportunity to discuss the laboratories’ requirements, ways to enhance their capabilities, and means to elevate their scientific and research efficiency.

The visit included monitoring compliance with ministerial instructions and regulations regarding the handling of hazardous materials, and emphasized the importance of implementing safety and preventive measures to ensure a secure laboratory environment and mitigate potential risks.

This visit is part of the university’s efforts to enhance oversight and coordination across its academic units, and to embed practices for the safe and responsible management of hazardous chemical and biological materials, and this contributes to fostering a safe laboratory environment that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals—specifically Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being, and Goal 12, which concerns responsible consumption and production.
