The University of Information Technology and Communications, in cooperation with the National Security Service/University Security Directorate, held an awareness workshop entitled “Combating Drugs and Their Dangers to Society.” The workshop was organized by the University’s Psychological Counseling Division in coordination with the Faculties of Engineering and Biomedical Informatics, with the participation of a specialized team from the Service and the attendance of faculty members, staff, and students.
The workshop addressed the definition of drugs and their types, the main reasons leading to drug use and addiction, and highlighted the resulting health, physical, and social effects, as well as their negative repercussions on the individual, family, and society. This aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of this scourge and ways to prevent it.
The specialized team also reviewed the legal aspects related to combating drugs and psychotropic substances, in light of the provisions of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. (50) of 2017. They also explained the mechanism for reporting related cases via the National Security Agency’s hotline (131), emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in reducing and combating drug use.
The workshop stressed the importance of integrated roles between academic institutions and security agencies in disseminating preventative awareness, strengthening social responsibility, and protecting youth from the dangers of drug abuse. This initiative is part of the university’s efforts to enhance awareness among its students and staff and contribute to providing a safe university environment and a more informed society regarding the dangers of drugs.
