The University’s Psychological Counseling Division, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at the University of Information Technology and Communications, organized an online seminar entitled “Genetic Factors and Their Impact on Suicide and Psychological Deterioration.”
The seminar featured lectures by Assistant Lecturer Fadhil Shaker Hammoud and Assistant Lecturer Huda Abbas Abed, who addressed the scientific dimensions of suicidal behavior and psychological deterioration from a biological-genetic perspective. They highlighted the role of genetic factors in increasing susceptibility to these conditions and the mechanisms by which these factors interact with psychological, environmental, and various life pressures.
The seminar also reviewed the findings of recent studies examining the genetic interplay with psychological disorders, genetic differences between the sexes and their relationship to behavior, the interaction between genes and the environment, and the role of neurotransmitters and the stress response axis in explaining these phenomena.
The seminar emphasized the importance of adopting a comprehensive scientific approach that contributes to the prevention and early detection of psychological problems and promotes academic awareness.
