The University Counseling Division, in collaboration with the Department of Legal Affairs, held an online scientific workshop titled “The Legal Framework for Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption.”
The workshop, presented by Assist.lec. Mariam Razaq Wadi, aims to reinforce the legal concepts related to integrity and transparency, highlighting the importance of national and international legislation in reducing the phenomenon of corruption, thereby fostering an institutional environment based on adherence to legal and ethical values.
The workshop covered several key topics, most notably the analysis of the constitutional and legal framework governing anti-corruption efforts, evaluating the adopted anti-corruption mechanisms, and measuring their effectiveness, as well as proposing legal suggestions that contribute to enhancing integrity and reducing violations.
The workshop also clarified the concept of integrity as a commitment to honesty, transparency, and respect for legal and ethical values, in contrast to defining corruption as the abuse of public power for private gain. It reviewed the relevant authorities combating corruption at both international and local levels, pointing out the role of the Federal Integrity Commission, the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, and the judiciary in prosecuting corruption crimes and promoting accountability principles.
Additionally, the workshop addressed supportive means for the work of oversight bodies, foremost among them is spreading legal culture within society, enhancing awareness of rights and duties, and mechanisms for reporting cases of corruption, alongside highlighting the role of civil society organizations in supporting community oversight and establishing transparency, as well as the importance of media in exposing corruption issues and building public opinion supportive of integrity values.
