Professor Dr. Abbas Mohsen Al-Bakri, President of the University of Information Technology and Communications, participated in a specialized workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in collaboration with Clarivate, focusing on building a university system to transform knowledge into economic value. The workshop was attended by several university presidents, researchers, and experts.
During the workshop, Dr. Haidar Abd Dhihad, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research, emphasized the importance of transitioning from the traditional role of universities in producing knowledge to building integrated systems capable of transforming knowledge, scientific research, and innovation into economic value. He also highlighted the need to enhance the connection between higher education outcomes and the skills and competencies required by the labor market.
The workshop, which featured specialized topics presented by Dr. Ayman Aqeel and Dr. Walid Hassan from Clarivate, addressed the foundations for building an integrated university system to transform knowledge into economic value, as well as mechanisms for managing knowledge and innovation and linking them to productive sectors and the labor market. Additionally, it included discussions of various related experiences and practices.
The workshop witnessed scientific discussions regarding the development of the institutional environment for innovation in Iraqi universities, activating partnerships with both the public and private sectors, and transforming research outcomes and academic knowledge into applications and projects with economic and developmental impact.
