Professor Dr. Abbas Mohsen Al-Bakri, President of the University of Information Technology and Communications, participated in an expanded academic meeting with His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, the Legal Custodian of the Holy Hussaini Shrine.The meeting focused on exploring ways to develop the International Arbaeen Conference and strengthen scientific and research partnerships with Iraqi universities.
The meeting was attended by a number of presidents of Iraqi universities, officials, and academics, following a visit to the Karbala Center for Studies and Research affiliated with the Holy Hussaini Shrine. During the visit, discussions focused on prospects for developing the conference, expanding university participation in its activities, and benefiting from academic expertise and specialized fields to study the various dimensions of the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
The participation of the President of the University of Information Technology and Communications in these meetings is particularly significant in light of the university’s academic contribution to the conference. Dr. Al-Bakri previously chaired the Scientific Committee for the “AI-Based Crowd Management” track at the International Scientific Conference on the Arbaeen Pilgrimage, organized by the Holy Hussaini Shrine. This track addressed the application of modern technologies and smart solutions to managing the requirements of large-scale pilgrimages.
The meeting also discussed ways to benefit from the conference’s outcomes and further develop its scientific themes in future editions, thereby strengthening the role of academic research in addressing the challenges associated with the Arbaeen pilgrimage. These include crowd management, energy, sustainability, recycling, and medical services, in addition to the humanitarian, social, cultural, and economic dimensions.
His Eminence Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai emphasized the importance of continuing to develop the International Arbaeen Conference and strengthening its academic approach, as well as expanding cooperation between the Karbala Center for Studies and Research and Iraqi universities. This would provide broader opportunities for researchers and academics to participate and contribute to the production of specialized scientific studies.He also put forward a number of proposals and recommendations aimed at contributing to the development of future editions of the conference and making greater use of the specialized expertise available at Iraqi universities.
The participation of Professor Dr. Abbas Mohsen Al-Bakri in this meeting represents a continuation of the university’s engagement in the conference’s academic and research activities. It also aligns with the university’s expertise in artificial intelligence, information and communication technology, and digital solutions, creating opportunities to utilize these fields in developing research-based and technological solutions that support crowd management and large-scale pilgrimages.
The meeting was attended by Professor Dr. Juma’a Salman Jiyad, President of Al-Karkh University of Science; Professor Dr. Ali Al-Shawi, President of Al-Nahrain University; Professor Dr. Adel Manea Al-Kaabi, President of the University of Maysan; and Professor Dr. Abbas Lafta Al-Aqabi, President of Wasit University, along with a number of officials, academics, and representatives of relevant government institutions.
