The Electronic Computing Center, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at the University of Information Technology and Communications, held a specialized scientific seminar entitled:
(The Evolution of Face Recognition in AI: From Classical Approaches to Deep Learning and Beyond)
The seminar was presented by Lecturer Omar Abdul Halim Nasser from the Electronic Computing Center. He discussed the radical transformation that facial recognition technologies have undergone, from classical methods based on simple manual measurements of facial features to intelligent systems based on deep neural networks capable of distinguishing between millions of faces in fractions of a second.
The seminar covered several key themes, most notably the classical era and its reliance on handcrafted features and traditional measurements.
This was followed by the transition phase and the role of machine learning technologies in improving the accuracy of facial recognition systems. Finally, the seminar addressed the deep learning revolution and the contribution of deep neural networks in achieving a qualitative leap in speed, efficiency, and performance.
