The College of Engineering at the University of Information Technology and Communications, as part of its program aimed at developing the scientific research skills of graduate students, held a workshop titled “Fundamentals of Scientific Research and Academic Publishing for Postgraduate Students,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Ola Adel Qasim.

The workshop aimed to enhance postgraduate students’ knowledge of the concepts of scientific research and its importance in building an academic and research career, by highlighting the key stages a researcher goes through, starting from selecting a research topic and formulating its idea in a way that aligns with the researcher’s interests and the needs of the scientific community.

The workshop included an explanation of how to search scientific databases and how to make effective use of reliable academic sources in preparing research. It also provided practical guidance on writing and structuring a scientific paper according to rigorous academic standards, as well as the principles for selecting appropriate journals for publication and the procedures for submitting process .In addition, it highlighted the importance of distinguishing between accredited scientific journals and predatory journals, introduced the peer review process, and explained how to respond to reviewers’ comments in a way that contributes to improving the quality of research output.
