The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Biomedical Informatics, University of Information Technology and Communications (UOITC), organized an awareness-based panel discussion for students entitled “The Unheard Voice: A Dialogue on Suicide Prevention.” The session was presented by Dr. Hanaa Saleem Ghanim and Lect. Sarra Hussein.
This seminar was conducted as part of the ministerial program aimed at mitigating this phenomenon. It focused on highlighting its risks, raising student awareness regarding the importance of psychological and social support, and identifying the root causes to actively prevent them.
The event witnessed active engagement from students, who shared various perspectives and proposals to find realistic solutions. Key recommendations included the importance of active listening, family attentiveness, and support from friends and peers. The discussion also emphasized utilizing psychological counseling services and experts, while warning against the negative influences of “bad company” and social media, which can impose psychological pressure and distort personality development.
Furthermore, the session stressed the necessity of confronting bullying, enhancing self-confidence, and fostering self-development and personal growth. It highlighted the importance of strengthening religious values and instilling hope and faith that failure is not the end of the road, but rather a potential new beginning toward ambition and success. At the conclusion of the seminar, educational brochures were distributed to students to further bolster psychological and educational awareness within the university environment.
