In response to the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in implementation of the 2026 Strategy for Combating Extremism, the University Psychological Counseling Section, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center at the University of Information Technology and Communications, organized a webinar titled “The Role of Educational Institutions in Combating Extremist Ideology.” The webinar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Kholoud Saad Mohammad, Head of the Mental Health Unit.The first session of the webinar addressed the importance of confronting extremist ideology in light of contemporary intellectual and social challenges. It outlined the primary causes of its spread and its negative impacts on societal security and stability. Furthermore, it clarified the concept of extremism and its intellectual, religious, social, and political forms. It also highlighted the factors driving the growth of this ideology, including marginalization, lack of awareness, unemployment, and the misuse of social media, emphasizing that countering this phenomenon requires the combined efforts of families, educational, media, and religious institutions to promote a culture of moderation and dialogue.The second session focused on the role of educational institutions in preventing extremism by fostering the values of tolerance, national belonging, and acceptance of the other. It also stressed the importance of curricula and awareness activities in building a conscious character capable of confronting radical ideas. Educational institutions represent the first line of defense in protecting youth from such ideology by providing a supportive educational environment for moderate thought, contributing to the construction of a safer and more stable society.
