The College of Engineering at the University of Information Technology and Communications held a master’s thesis defense for Anfal Raad Desher, a student in the Department of Communication Engineering and Mobile Computing, titled:

“Reliable Layered Transmission and Task Offloading in UAV-Assisted MEC Networks for Disaster Relief”.

The thesis aimed to develop reliable mechanisms for data transmission and task allocation in Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) networks supported by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This contributes to improving communication efficiency, accelerating data processing, and ensuring the continuity of digital services during disasters and emergencies, particularly in environments where communication infrastructure is damaged or disrupted.

The study focused on developing a framework based on multi-layer data transmission and priority-based computational task allocation according to users’ needs. It also aimed to optimize the allocation of communication and computing resources, UAV trajectories, and inter-UAV cooperation strategies, with the goal of reducing latency and enhancing the reliability and efficiency of services provided to rescue teams and field operations.

At the conclusion of the defense, the committee, chaired by Assist. Prof. Dr. Tahrir Safaa Mansour, with Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali Najdi Abdullah as a member and supervisor, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussam Hussein Ali as a member, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Hind Salem Ghazi as a member, decided to award the student a Master’s degree with a grade of Excellent, in recognition of her academic efforts and in support of the use of modern technologies in disaster and emergency response and the enhancement of digital service continuity.
