The Informatics Institute for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Information Technology and Communications hosted the defense of a master’s thesis by student Suhad Muhyee Helal, Specializing in Computer Science, and the thesis focused on the application of modern artificial intelligence techniques to the diagnosis of brain tumors.

The thesis, titled “Federated Learning-Based Collaborative System for Brain Cancer Diagnosis,” adopted a research approach focused on developing a collaborative framework that utilizes “Federated Learning” technology to classify brain tumors based on magnetic resonance imaging scans.

The study addressed mechanisms for handling variations in data nature and distribution across different institutions and sources by testing the system within both IID and Non-IID data environments, thereby enhancing the potential to leverage intelligent models in medical applications while ensuring data privacy.

Following the completion of the thesis defense by the chair and members of the examination committee—and in the presence of the Dean of the Informatics Institute for Postgraduate Studies and her deputies—the result was announced, awarding the student a Master’s degree in Computer Science with Distinction.
