The Department of Media and Government Communication at the University of Information Technology and Communications (UOITC), in cooperation with a medical team from the Fakhri Al-Din Al-Jamil Healthcare Center under the Al-Rusafa Health Directorate, organized an awareness campaign within the university. The initiative aimed to enhance health awareness among students regarding Thalassemia, institutionalize concepts of prevention and early detection, provide health guidelines, and conduct medical examinations.
The campaign featured introductory sessions about Thalassemia, defining its causes, modes of transmission, and the crucial role of medical screening in detecting active cases or identifying genetic carriers of the trait. Additionally, it highlighted the impact of health education in limiting the spread of the disorder and fostering a preventive culture among the youth.
The specialized healthcare team provided valuable medical information and instructions to the students, thereby contributing to public health awareness and encouraging them to undergo the necessary screenings while learning about preventive measures.
This initiative falls within the framework of the University of Information Technology and Communications’ commitment to providing a campus environment that supports student health and safety. It also underscores its ongoing cooperation with healthcare institutions to spread awareness and establish sound health practices within the university community.
