The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering, University of Information Technology and Communications (UOITC), organized an awareness seminar titled “Social Customs and Traditions and Their Impact on the Lives of Working Women.” The seminar was presented by faculty members Asst. Lecturer Farah Ali Tawfeeq and Asst. Lecturer Nasma Ammar Mahmoud, aiming to enhance awareness of the social and professional challenges confronting working women.

The seminar addressed the influence of social heritage on women’s career paths, professional development opportunities, and personal aspirations. It also highlighted the challenges arising from the multiplication of their domestic and professional responsibilities, underscoring the crucial importance of achieving a balance between career requirements and social life.

Furthermore, the session discussed the positive and negative aspects of customs and traditions, emphasizing the need to preserve values that foster family bonding and community cooperation. Concurrently, it stressed the importance of reviewing practices that may limit women’s independence or diminish their opportunities for active community participation, while underscoring the absolute necessity of providing a workplace environment built on mutual respect and equal opportunity.

This seminar falls within the framework of the Women’s Affairs Unit’s activities, reflecting the College of Engineering’s dedicated efforts to raise awareness of working women’s issues and support their empowerment, thereby contributing to consolidating their role in society and achieving sustainable development goals.
