The President of the University of Information Technology and Communications , Professor Abbas Mohsen Al-Bakri and Dean of the Faculty of Business Informatics, Professor Safa Abbeis Mahdi, opened the University Education Centre at Karkh Central Prison in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Justice under the supervision and follow-up of the Iraqi Reform Department in the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Burhan Alqaissy.
Dr. Al-Bakri emphasized that the University of Information Technology and Communications has always provided various scientific and social services to various public and private sectors, and that the project of the University Education Center at the Central Prison of Karkh which started from the University is a vital project aimed at inmates in prisoners to complete their university studies in accordance with the established regulations, since education is the right of every Iraqi individual. For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Business Informatics, Professor Safa Abbeis Mahdi, noted that the project of the University Education Center established by the Faculty of Business Informatics is one of the important projects undertaken by the Faculty, which was prepared four years ago and was initiated after the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice with direct support from the President of the University of Information Technology and Communications .
The Dean of the College affirmed that “we seek to be the beginning of several projects in various prisons in Iraq”, thanking Erthlink Telecommunications for supporting such important projects.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Burhan Mezher Al-Qaisi, confirmed that “the Ministry of Justice has always guaranteed the rights of all presoners, including the right to education, through the formation of the relevant committees and the provision of the necessary supplies and rooms for the purpose of completing their studies, which leads to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society after the expiry of their sentences.
Al-Qaisi explained that the guarantee of the right to education was affirmed by international instruments and the laws stipulated for its importance in rehabilitation, which played an important and broad role in the development of the social environment.
