At its meeting today July 26, 2022, the Council of the University of Information Technology and Communications hosted the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Burhan Mezher and the Associate Director-General of the Iraqi Reform Service, Raed Jadir Khalaf, to discuss the success of the University Education Centre for Inmates’ Education in Prisons
During the meeting, the results of the completion of the first phase of the project were discussed. The challenges that accompanied it and ways to overcome itwere highlighted. The Council also asserteed on providing the necessties to sustain and expand the success of this important project.
The President of the University, Professor Abbas Mohsen Al-Bakri, stressed the need to expand the teaching mechanism at the Center after the success of his experience to include other colleges and departments of the University. In addition to the possibility of participating in training courses organized by the Continuous Education Centre Education, especially those that enable participants to obtain international certificates.
Dr. Al-Bakri noted that he is working to organize a joint conference with the Ministry of Justice at the end of the first school year to evaluate the experience and start the other stages. The Dean of the Faculty of Business Informatics, Professor Safa Abais Mahdi, reviewed during the meeting the challenges and needs of the future University Education Centre in terms of teaching staff and student data from inmates.
The Dean highlighted the requirements of the University Education Center for the proper and accurate completion of its tasks, including (provision of inmate students’ data in prisons and timely submission in accordance with the standards of the Ministry of Higher Education, and provision of the necesseties to open other departments in the Center with the availability of rooms and classes as needed, increasing the number of teachers and providing them with the necessary wages and facilitating their academic, technical and administrative mission at the center.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Dr. Burhan Mezher Al-Qaisi confirmed that the proposals and requirements presented at the session of the University Council will be submitted to His Excellency the Minister of Justice To complete the success of this vital and important project.
The University Council expressed its readiness to provide the necessary courses to qualify and benefit from the staff of the Ministry of Justice with higher degrees and to impart them to the University Education Centre for lectures at the Centre.
In turn, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice paid tribute to the role of the University of Information Technology and Communications in the establishment of the University Education Centre for Inmates’ Education in Prisons, which is the first of its kind in Iraq, and to its considerable efforts to make this vital project successful.
