The University of Information Technology and Communications organizes a webinar on motivating women’s participation in parliamentary elections

The Women’s Affairs section, in cooperation with the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Information Technology and Communications, organized an educational webinar entitled: “motivating women’s participation in parliamentary elections – Challenges and opportunities”.

The webinar presented by Asst.prof. Murooj Abbas Mutlaq from the Legal Affairs Department, Asst.prof .Nairi Abdullah Naeem from the College of Business Informatics, to enhance the role of women in political and electoral work, and to emphasize the importance of their participation as an active element in the democratic process.

The first axis of the webinar addressed constitutional guarantees and the role of women in the political scene, stressing that the democratic system is based on the principle of gender equality in various political, economic and social fields. The importance of activating this role was also emphasized as the legislative elections scheduled for November 2025 approach, ensuring women’s real and effective participation in decision-making.

The second axis focused on effective strategies to enhance women’s participation, by protecting them from violence and political blackmail, legislating laws that support their rights and activating them, in addition to implementing the women’s quota system and providing financial incentives to parties that support women’s representation on their electoral lists. The importance of awareness and education campaigns through workshops and seminars, and providing a safe environment inside polling stations, was also noted, in line with the fifth goal of Sustainable Development
on gender equality.

The webinar was attended by a number of interested parties and specialists in women’s issues, who stressed the importance of strengthening their role in building the political process in Iraq.

The Director of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Department participated in a meeting to discuss reducing illegal immigration

The Director of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Department at the University, Lect. Nidhal Al-Abadi, participated in the central meeting held at the University of Baghdad, which was attended by a number of officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research/Research and Development Directorate, and a representative of the Minister of Migration and Displaced, and a number of university presidents’ assistants for academic affairs. The meeting was held to discuss the sixth recommendation of the minutes of the National Central Committee, as the Supreme Central Committee reviewed its activities aimed at curbing illegal immigration, emphasizing the importance of employing academic studies and research within universities to support the state’s efforts in this regard. The meeting, held at the College of Engineering, was actively attended by all participants, who offered constructive contributions and proposals aimed at supporting the relevant authorities in developing appropriate solutions to this phenomenon, as some of these proposals were included in the meeting’s concluding recommendations, which included practical insights into the psychological and social causes of migration among students, which are considered as an important part of society.

Female University lecturers participate in a trainer qualification course as part of the Riyada Initiative

As part of efforts to activate the role of universities in supporting youth and entrepreneurship, a number of female faculty members from the University of Information Technology and Communications participated in the first training course for trainers. The course is organized as part of the Riyada Initiative, launched by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’a Al-Sudani on March 4, 2023, with the aim of creating an entrepreneurial community and stimulating the business environment in Iraq.
This participation comes in line with ministerial directives to implement advanced training programs aimed at developing the training skills of University and institute faculty members by engaging them in specialized courses delivered by business and innovation incubators.
The University emphasizes the importance of this participation in enhancing the capabilities of its teaching staff, in line with the initiative’s goals of spreading the culture of entrepreneurship and establishing a University environment that encourages creativity and innovation.
