The College of Engineering at the University of Information Technology and Communications held a scientific seminar entitled

“Challenges Facing Researchers in the Scientific Publishing Process in Academic Journals.” The seminar was presented by Dr. Yaqeen Sabah Muzal, a faculty member in the Department of Communications Engineering and Mobile Computing.

The seminar addressed the most significant obstacles researchers face in their scientific publishing journey, including the mechanisms for selecting appropriate journals, adhering to publication guidelines and requirements, and the lengthy peer-review process. It also discussed the challenges associated with the costs of publishing in open-access journals, as well as some issues related to research acceptance and the potential for bias in evaluation.

The seminar highlighted the importance of researchers possessing time management skills, fostering effective academic communication, and being able to keep pace with the ever-changing requirements for publication. These factors contribute to improving the quality of scientific output and increasing the chances of publication in reputable journals.

The seminar included constructive scientific interventions and discussions, all of which emphasized the importance of supporting researchers and developing their research capabilities to meet the demands of the modern academic environment and contribute to raising the scientific level within the institution.

The University of Information and Communication Technology organized a seminar on reducing suicide and self-harm: a psychological perspective

Based on the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and in implementation of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention for the year 2026, the University of Information Technology and Communications, represented by the Women’s Affairs Division and in cooperation with the Continuous Education Center, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Reducing Suicide and Self-Harm: A Psychological Perspective”, which aimed to highlight this phenomenon and raise the level of community awareness of its psychological effects and ways to reduce it.

The seminar addressed the concepts of suicide and self-harm, clarifying the differences between them, reviewing the most prominent statistics related to suicide cases, as well as explaining the underlying reasons for self-harm, including feelings of guilt, anger directed inwards, past traumas, family conflicts, in addition to physical factors such as hormonal changes, and other disorders.

The seminar, presented by Lect. Dr. Amani Saleh Znad, concluded with a review of the most important preventive interventions, including building a safe psychological environment, spreading community awareness to reduce stigma, and enhancing psychological resilience, as well as emphasizing the importance of early psychological support, strengthening social relationships, and monitoring warning signs such as extreme isolation or expressing thoughts related to death, which contributes to reducing the risks of suicide and self-harm.

The Faculty of Engineering implemented a tree-planting campaign in cooperation with the Agricultural Division

As part of its efforts to promote environmental awareness and expand green spaces within the university campus, the College of Engineering at the University of Information Technology and Communications organized a tree-planting campaign in cooperation with the Agricultural Division, with the participation of a number of faculty members, staff and students.

The campaign included planting a group of seedlings and trees in the college’s corridors and gardens, with the aim of improving the university environment and creating a healthy and sustainable atmosphere, in addition to establishing a culture of interest in green spaces among students.

The campaign was implemented following joint coordination between the college and the agricultural division, which provided the appropriate seedlings and supervised the planting operations to ensure the success and sustainability of the initiative, and this reflects the participants’ keenness to contribute to the development of the university environment and enhance its civilized appearance.

The Dean of the College of Engineering emphasized the importance of such initiatives in supporting the university’s environmental goals, noting to the continuation of organizing similar activities that contribute to serving the university community and consolidating the concepts of sustainability.
